Langstrath Mountain Loop
It was the first time I have completed this particular route but wow what an amazing run. An instant classic in my book. Head straight out of the Old dungeon Ghyll up Great Langdale towards Stake pass, fantastic switchbacks on either side of this saddle snake up and down the mountain. The switchbacks to the North into Langstrath would be more at home in the Alps than the Lakes. As you descend into Langstrath you feel as you are descending into the soul and belly of the Lake District, for being at the heart of the Lake District Langstrath is very quiet and feels extremely remote. The natural elements enhanced by this impressive valley. The wind tugging at my clothes willing me to slow down and enjoy the surroundings, the waters crystal clear and calling for a swim. Even the Herdwick seemed interested to see you there. You pick up the Coast to Coast route and head past Heron and Eagle Crag and back up past lining crag towards High Raise. Dropping over the top of the Langdale Pikes you find a fast and steep descent to the valley bottom. A cracking 12.6 miles and 4202ft of elevation.
If your planning on running in the Lake District this route if definitely worth considering.
